Of Nemesis are a prog metal band from Hungary. They have been around
since 1998 and were simply called Nemesis back then. They play music in
a similar vein to Dream Theater, Everon, and especially Vanden Plas.
The vocals of Zoltan Kiss bear a strong resemblance to Andy Kuntz, which
is a good thing. It should also be noted there is only a slight hint of
an accent. What you can expect from this disc are strong vocals, metal
shredding, tight musicianship and tons of melody.
This cd is a concept album about the afterlife. There are some
beautiful melodies to be found along with soaring guitars and keys that
give this music a wonderful symphonic quality. Many of the songs have
quieter parts accented with nice piano or keys that make this cd easy to
listen to. In fact, I found I liked it right off the bat and the more I
play it the better it gets. This is quite a long cd with a lot of music
to absorb therefore so I will not touch on each song individually. Most
of the tracks are long enough for the band to display their competent
musical talent. The instruments are given lots of space to play, and add
to that plenty of atmosphere and you have a unique and varied album.
These guys are not just Dream Theater wannabes, they have a sound of
their own which they can be quite proud of.
Some of the highlights of the album include “Tree Of Life” with its
atmospheric beginning and nice guitar riff; “Meeting With The
Unbelievable” featuring a thunderous guitar riff with ominous keys in
the background; and the beautiful “Land Of Light” with tasty soaring
guitar and a lovely melody. I could go on and on but I will leave it to
you to discover this gem for yourself. Add this to your prog metal
collection.
